Red Velvet Brownies

Red-Velvet-BrowniesA big southern tradition in America is Red Velvet cake. It is chocolatey and amazing, and has become a craze in Britain with red velvet cupcakes.  An easy twist on the classic are red velvet brownies. You could still do the icing toping on this, but I find they are best on their own, with the yummy pecans throughout to remind you of the frosting.

Red Velvet Brownies

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp liquid red food colouring
  • 1/2 cup butter or canola oil

Preheat oven to 350F (170 C)

Combine all ingredients except the red food colouring in a large bowl.

Add food colouring in slowly until you get the desired colour

Line a square baking tray (8×8 ideally) with foil or baking parchment

Fill tray with brownie mix

Bake for 25-30 minutes
